Hurricane Katrina

Hurricane Katrina was an extremely destructive and deadly cyclone and is ranked among the five deadliest hurricanes in the history of the United States. This hurricane disrupted many citizens lives in the south and ruined most of their belongings, maybe all they had. This left many people with no homes and the feeling of loss.  Hurricane Katrina was the largest and 3rd strongest hurricane ever recorded to make landfall in the United States.  In New Orleans, the levees were designed for Category 3 hurricanes, but Katrina was at a Category 5 hurricane, with winds up to 175 mph. The levees ended up breaking and flooding the city of New Orleans. I pray for the families that lost loved ones or that are still recovering from this horrific event. I also pray that we all stay safe during this hurricane season.

New Semester Reflection

First off, switching schools this fall was a very exciting experience. I learned that I needed to take advantage of my free time and get as much school work done as I can. This is especially important if you play sports. I also learned no to wait till the last minute to start homework. Procrastination only serves as a temporary stress reliever and only builds stress when the due date comes. You will notice a change in some of your grades if you plan ahead and get started as soon as possible. Most importantly, you need sleep. What good does any of this do if you are too tired to participate in class and pay attention. My goal for the spring semester is to balance sports and school. I will try to get most of my homework done BEFORE practice so I can go to practice and then just go home and get a good night sleep. Above all, I will be working towards all As this semester.

Symbolism

Jerry wakes up every morning at the crack of dawn; 5:30 to be exact. The alarm clock blares as he roles out of bed. Jerry laces up his running shoes and sets out the door. He immediately starts running. Running in the morning is his favorite way to start his day. As Jerry feels the cool wind touch his face, he becomes delighted with the autumn air. He continues on his normal route; Past the deli, a right at the corner where the bank sits, and right through the park where he grew up playing. He sprints up the steps of the capital building and overlooks the city. To the left of him is a great flag that rests on a tall shinny pole. Jerry watches the flag as the red, white, and blue colors float elegantly in the wind. He sits to admire the beautiful symbol of beauty and freedom, then starts home with a smile on his face.
